Prominent Sioux Falls developer Don Dunham dies at age 70

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — A prominent developer in South Dakota’s largest city has died.

A family spokesman says 70-year-old Don Dunham Jr., of Sioux Falls, died Saturday after complications from surgery at Avera McKennan Hospital.

John Archer, Dunham’s lawyer, says Dunham was a pioneer who was the first developer to use the tax increment financing program in Sioux Falls.

The Argus Leader reported Dunham’s company supervised and managed more than $100 million in construction projects.

Dunham reportedly built more than 1,000 apartment units and more than 400 townhouses and condominiums.

Archer says Dunham’s developments “touched 50 to 75 percent of Sioux Falls.”
