Governor appoints two to military board

PIERRE — Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed Robert Shepherd, of Sisseton, and Kim Vanneman, of Ideal, to the South Dakota Board of Military Affairs, effective Jan. 8.
Shepherd is tribal chairman of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate. He served as petty officer 2nd class in the United States Navy from 1996 to 2004.
Vanneman is a farm business partner and was a three-term member of the state House of Representatives.
Shepherd and Vanneman are additions to the Board of Military Affairs, which was expanded from five to seven members by the 2012 state Legislature at the request of the South Dakota Department of the Military.
The Board of Military Affairs deals with general management of the state’s National Guard armories.
