Area man admits to smoking marijuana while on probation

A 19-year-old man convicted of distributing marijuana admitted Tuesday to violating multiple terms of his probation.

A 19-year-old man convicted of distributing marijuana admitted Tuesday to violating multiple terms of his probation.

Benjamin Amadon, of Woonsocket, admitted he possessed and smoked marijuana while on probation. He also said he missed an appointment with his court services officer.

Amadon pleaded guilty April 17 to possession with the intent to distribute 1 ounce or less of marijuana and was sentenced June 12 to two years on probation, 40 days in jail and fined $300. He could have all of the two-year suspended prison term reimposed as a result of the admission. Sentencing is scheduled for February.

Amadon was released from jail with conditions he immediately return to high school in Woonsocket, enroll in drug treatment in Mitchell and submit to twice-weekly drug tests.
