Corsica/Stickney tops Christian

Points were hard to come by for the Mitchell Christian boys’ basketball team Tuesday night.

The Eagles scored 14 points in the first half and just four points in the third quarter en route to losing their sixth game of the season to Corsica/Stickney 73-31 at Mitchell Christian School.

“We came out kind of slow, and of course we had a really hard game last night over in Canistota,” Mitchell Christian coach Dennis Martin said, referring to Monday’s loss to the Hawks. “We knew it was going to be another tough one, and we were a little flat coming out. They got us on our heels and never let up on us.”

The Eagles (2-6) scored 13 points n the fourth quarter, which was nearly as many points as they had in the entire first half.

Mitchell Christian shot 31 percent from the field on 13-of-42 shooting. The Eagles also struggled from behind the three-point line, taking nine shots and not converting any.

The Jaguars (5-3) went 27-of-54 from the field and shot 40 percent from behind the arc.

Corsica/Stickney was led by Adam Bormann, who knocked down four threes on his way to scoring a game-high 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting. The senior guard grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds and recorded six assists.

Behind Bormann’s effort, the Jaguars’ offense churned out 73 points.

“Adam is a fantastic leader on this team,” Corsica/Stickney coach Mike Tuschen said. “He was a point guard on our state championship team two years ago, he is an all-stater and he does a great job of leading our team.”

The Jaguars forced Mitchell Christian to turn the ball over 19 times and allowed only Ethan Cooper to reach double figures in scoring with 11 points.

“We came here with a game plan and that was to play pretty good defense,” Tuschen said. “With a team like this who has been scoring pretty well, I thought we contained them as well as we could.”

Tuschen and the Jaguars look to win their third straight game Friday against Kimball/White Lake in White Lake. The Eagles look to bounce back Thursday against Dakota Christian in New Holland.
