Mitchell Christian girls earn 7th straight victory

Mitchell Christian outscored its opponent 15-5 in the fourth quarter to defeated Freeman Academy 46-30 Saturday to remain undefeated at 7-0 on the season.

“In the second half, we wanted to improve in passing and defensive game,” Mitchell Christian head coach Jackie VanLaecken said. “The girls moved the ball around well and defensively, we just stepped it up.”

The Golden Eagles were led by Khiree Held, who had 14 points in the game. Held was followed by Emily Reynen with 10 points and Becca Glanzer chipped in with nine.

Reynen had a team-best eight rebounds as Mitchell Christian brought down 23 in the game. The Golden Eagles had 20 steals and were led by Alexa VanLaecken with eight.

Freeman Academy was led by Hannah Yoder, who recorded 16 points in the loss.

VanLaecken said the team is feeling confident and will need to with a tough schedule ahead.

“These wins have been nice,” she said. “With a lot of young girls, this is a confidence booster. Teams want to beat us, so we’ve got to come out and be ready to play.”

Mitchell Christian’s next action is against Dakota Christian Thursday in New Holland. Freeman Academy (1-5) takes on Marion Tuesday in Marion.
