Davison commission to consider new sheriff

New District 2 Commissioner Randy Reider will be sworn in Tuesday during the Davison County Commission’s first meeting of 2013.

The meeting will take place at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Room at the courthouse, 200 E. Fourth Ave., Mitchell.

The board will again consider Commissioner Denny Kiner’s recommendation to appoint Chief Deputy Steve Brink as Sheriff Dave Miles’ replacement upon Miles’ Jan. 18 retirement.

Kiner’s recommendation was tabled until this week because the discussion was not on last week’s official agenda.

A new commission chairman will be selected to replace current chairman John Claggett . The first meeting of the year is traditionally organizational in nature.

The commissioners will also consider approving raises of 2 percent, plus 50 cents an hour, for all county employees, as well as a raise for themselves.

The commissioners currently earn $14,003 a year.

Pledge of Allegiance.

Administration of commissioner oaths of office.

Election of commission chairman.

Election of vice chairman.

Approval of past meeting minutes.

Citizen input.

9:30 a.m.

State’s Attorney Jim Miskimins , regarding the signing of the 2013 Jailers’ Union contract.

9:45 a.m.

General 2013 business, including:

Commission approval of 2013 employee wages.

Consideration to set 2013 county commissioner wages.

General business: Approving digital data policy; setting various county rates and fees for 2013; setting election worker pay rates; designation of the official county newspaper; the setting of welfare assistance rates; and consideration of a resolution setting travel reimbursement rates for 2013.

10:15 a.m.

Discuss South Dakota State University “Memorandum of Understanding,” 4-H Youth Adviser Alice Nickelson .

10:30 a.m.

Closed executive session, discussion of sheriff’s appointment.

11 a.m.

Jail Administrator Radel , regarding a new hire, a resignation, part-time salaries, status change.

11:30 a.m.

Register of Deeds Young, regarding a work study employment contract for a Mitchell Technical Institute student.

Highway Superintendent Weinberg, regarding a new hire.

Miscellaneous items, including the approval of: bills for payment and employee timesheets.

Note:

The Davison County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 3 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Room.
