Donald Wieczorek, Mitchell

Donald Wieczorek, 88, Mitchell, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012. He was born on Feb. 26, 1924.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

He was born at Mount Vernon to Ernest and Elizabeth (Goerz) Wieczorek.

He grew up at Mount Vernon and Marion and graduated from Marion High School.

On June 10, 1945, he married Darleen Herbst.

They farmed near Marion until moving to a farm southeast of Mount Vernon in 1958.

Don also worked at the South Dakota State Training School in Plankinton numerous years and the Abbott House in Mitchell.

In August 1999, they moved to Mitchell.

Don and Darleen provided foster care for many years and cared for more than 50 foster children.

He was a member of the Wesleyan Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Dianne (Ralph) Lohman, Sherwood, Ore.; one sister, Donna Wright, Mitchell; four grandchildren: Jared Lohman, Kristen (Wade) Hutchinson, Matthew Wieczorek and Christopher Lohman; and one great-grandson, Finnley Lohman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Gerald; one brother at birth; and a brother, Dean Wieczorek.
