FREMONT, Neb. — There were two things on Shane Murphy’s mind after his Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team lost to Midland 82-60 Wednesday in a Great Plains Athletic Conference game.

“Rebounding and defensive intensity, you’ve always got to have it,” Murphy said, “We didn’t have it.”

The Tigers, who were outrebounded 42-33, got a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds from Jalen Voss. Aireus Stephenson added 10 points. Wesleyan was 22-of-56 from the field for 39 percent and was 3-of-24 from behind the three-point line.

The Tigers (3-5 GPAC, 8-9 overall) trailed by 14 points five minutes into the game. DWU mounted a comeback and tied the game with 8:31 to go in the first half, but Midland rebuilt its lead to 14 by halftime.

Midland (6-3 GPAC, 11-5 overall) was led by James Parrott’s 25 points. Galen Gullie had 16 points and Jerome Vaughn had 10 rebounds.

Midland shot 48 percent from the field and had 13 turnovers to the Tigers’ 15.
