Former DWU professor returns from overseas service

Former Dakota Wesleyan University professor and Mitchell resident Dr. Anthony “Tony” Cole, a major in the U.S. Army Reserve, has returned from deployment to Kuwait in support of Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Cole was assigned to the 983rd Medical Detachment from Fort Snelling, Minn., as a biochemist. During his deployment, he served as the North Team’s Officer in Charge at Camp Buehring from October 2011 to August 2012. He has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal (third award) for his service. He also received the National Defense Medal with bronze star device (second award), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal with mobilization device and the Army Overseas Service Ribbon.
Cole was also awarded the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. During his deployment, he logged 573 volunteer hours at the Camp Buehring and Ali al Salem Air Base-LSA USOs.
He and his wife Jodie live in Plainville, Kan. Cole has been selected to serve as the operations officer for the U.S. Army Reserve’s 2218th Mobility Support Battalion at Fort Riley, Kan.
