Former senator, state Supreme Court justice dies

RAPID CITY (AP) — Two-time state senator and South Dakota Supreme Court justice Frank Henderson has died. He was 84.

According to the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, Henderson died Friday at the Sheridan, Wyo., Veterans Affairs Medical Center Home.

John Henderson, one the justice's eight children with wife Norma, tells the Rapid City Journal that his father was a man of conviction.

Frank Henderson fought in the Korean War, an experience that gave him post-traumatic stress disorder for decades. He suffered Alzheimer's disease in his final days.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. New Year's Day at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City, followed by a Christian wake service and rosary at 5 p.m.

A burial mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
