LETTER: America going down ‘detour,’ needs prayer

America has turned away from God — The name Christian or CHRISTmas is prohibited today.

By: The Rev. Floyd Dalzell, Emery

To the Editor:

What has happened to our country today? We have just seen the most tragic killing of 27, yes 27, shot and killed by a 22-year-old boy from a broken home.

We are hearing across America the need to pray. We are seeing heartbroken lives — broken homes — why? America has turned away from God — The name Christian or CHRISTmas is prohibited today. America is going down the wrong road and is on a detour as are the president and government. We need to get back to the Constitution, which our forefathers gave us and make the words “in God we trust” a reality.

The following poem found on the Internet says it so well.

Mary had a little lamb its fleece was white as snow,

And everywhere that Mary went the Lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school each day twasn’t even in the rule.

He made the children laugh and play to have a lamb at school.

And then the rules all changed one day illegal it became

To bring the Lamb of God to school or even speak His name.

Every day got worse and worse and days turned into years

Instead of hearing children laugh we heard gunshots and tears.

What must we do to stop the crime that’s in our schools today?

Let’s let the Lamb come back to school and teach our kids to pray.

Jesus is that Lamb of God whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. Jesus is the one who said, “Come unto me all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” He also said, “I am come that they may have life and have it more abundantly.” When the disciples were in a boat on the Sea of Galilee and a storm arose, it was Jesus who stilled the storm with His words, “Peace be still.” The Christ of Christmas wants to be the Savior of each person.

“God sent not His son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:17
