Man faces murder charge in death of Sioux Falls toddler

Manegabe Chebea Ally is charged with alternate counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder for the Christmas Day death of an 18-month-old boy in Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls police say Manegabe Chebea Ally is charged with alternate counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. Circuit Judge Larry Long issued a bench warrant in the amount of $1 million for Ally's arrest.

Ally is now in police custody and is expected to make an initial court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Ally told police the child fell off a bed, but doctors said such a fall could not have caused the child's injuries.

Emergency personnel responded to a call at a Sioux Falls apartment building Monday afternoon that the toddler was not breathing and had no pulse.

The child was resuscitated but died on Tuesday.
