South Dakota drivers now can lose their licenses if they accumulate too many points for moving violations that include drunken driving, reckless driving, eluding police or running a stop sign or red light. But no points are assessed for speeding.
Rep. Steve Hickey of Sioux Falls tells the Argus Leader he is likely to introduce a bill that would give drivers between one and three points for each speeding offense. It takes 15 points in 12 months or 22 points in 24 months before a license is suspended.
A similar bill was rejected by the South Dakota House last year.
