RAPID CITY — The South Dakota Division of Wildland Fire and the Rapid City Fire Department is asking everyone to take extra precautions to prevent wildfires over the holiday weekend. The grassland areas still remain dry which increases the danger of possible wildland fires.

Although in the last several days there has been some snow fall and moisture, the state grasslands are still far behind normal. The possibility of firework displays causing fast moving wildfires in the grasslands has increased significantly for this time of year.

State Wildland Fire Division Director Jay Esperance is asking residents and visitors to the state to use extreme precautions when they are shooting fireworks. The discharge of fireworks is prohibited within the Black Hills Forest Fire Protection District and any municipality.
