Area high school basketball roundup 12/24/12: Chamberlain boys top Scotland

CHAMBERLAIN — Skyler Bertram made eight 3-pointers to lead the Chamberlain boys’ basketball team to an 83-30 win over Scotland Saturday.

CHAMBERLAIN — Skyler Bertram made eight 3-pointers to lead the Chamberlain boys’ basketball team to an 83-30 win over Scotland Saturday.

Bertram had 26 points and Reuben Estes had 10 points. Gage Basting had a game-high 11 rebounds. The Cubs were 32-of-70 from the field and 5-of-11 from the free throw line.

Scotland was led by Seth Ireland, who had nine points.

Chamberlain (3-1) plays Belle Fourche Saturday, while Scotland (0-4) hosts Gayville-Volin Saturday.

Irene-Wakonda 48, Menno 39

MENNO — Irene-Wakonda had three players in double-digit scoring figures to defeat Menno 48-39 Saturday in Menno.

Menno’s Austin Herrboldt recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, which were both game highs. Caleb Preszler also added 10 points in the win. Menno shot 48 percent from the field and 56 percent from the free throw line.

Ashur Wiedrich and Chris Herigs each had 12 points for Irene-Wakonda. Irene-Wakonda also won the JV game.

Menno (1-3) plays Andes Central Thursday in Lake Andes, while Irene-Wakonda (2-3) plays Gayville-Volin Jan. 4.

Girls’ basketball

Chamberlain 56, Scotland 43

CHAMBERLAIN — Logan Pickner recorded a double-double in Chamberlain’s 56-43 victory over Scotland in a high school girls’ basketball game Saturday.

Pickner had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Kennedy Wagner and Corrina Reuer also scored in double figures with 16 and 14 points. Alex Pederson brought down seven rebounds in the win.

The Cubs were 23-of-58 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line.

Aisha Abbink led Scotland with 13 points. Sam Geiman and Kennidy Asche had 10 points apiece. The Highlanders were 11-of-16 from the free throw line.

Chamberlain (4-1) Belle Fourche Saturday, while Scotland (3-2) hosts Gayville-Volin Saturday.

Irene-Wakonda 69, Menno 64

MENNO — Kylee Kessler scored a game-high 25 points in Menno’s 69-64 loss to Irene-Wakonda Saturday.

Kessler also brought down 16 rebounds, giving her a double-double. Menno’s Christina Herrboldt recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Menno shot 51 percent from the field and 67 percent from the free throw line.

Irene-Wakonda had four players in double-digit scoring and Makayla Mohr led the team with 21 points.

Irene-Wakonda also won the JV game.

Menno (2-4) hosts Alcester Hudson Jan. 4, while Irene-Wakonda plays Gayville-Volin Jan. 4.
