Marlin boys' team falls to Brookings, Sioux Falls

The Mitchell Marlin boys’ varsity hockey team faced two of the top three teams in the state, losing a pair of games to Brookings and Sioux Falls over the weekend.

The Mitchell Marlin boys’ varsity hockey team faced two of the top three teams in the state, losing a pair of games to Brookings and Sioux Falls over the weekend.

The Marlins (2-6) only scored one goal in the two games. In the first game against Brookings, the Marlins were defeated 7-1.

Forward Jacob Cersosimo scored the only Marlin goal, which came in the first period.

Garrett Gerstner recorded a hat trick for the Rangers (7-1).

In the second game, Mitchell was shut out 7-0 to Sioux Falls Sunday in Mitchell. The Flyers (7-0) were led by Ben Czarnecki, who recorded a hat trick in the game.

Marlin goalie Weston Gauger made 32 saves in the game. Mitchell made 13 shots on goal, while Sioux Falls made 39 shots on goal.

The Marlins are back in action when they host the Huron All Stars Jan. 4 at the Mitchell Activities Center.
