LETTER: Give guns back to law-abiding citizens

To the Editor:

Your Dec. 20 editorial proves that this paper, along with the media in general, deserves some of the blame for the Newtown massacre. You people need to understand that the Second Amendment has been destroyed thanks to the public opinion tailored by the media, and the result has been gun-free schools.

You cannot say, “Gun ownership is enshrined in our Constitution and should be maintained as a right of American citizenship,” right after saying, “It is time to renew the long-expired assault weapons ban.” Banning assault weapons violates gun rights, as does banning firearms at schools.

But you don’t want to “surround children with still more guns,” and instead maintain gun-free schools. Israel’s response was to eliminate the gun-free zones, but your editorial takes us in the opposite direction and promotes banning firearms across all of America.

Larry Elder quoted James Madison: tyrants were “afraid to trust the people with arms” and lauded “the advantage of being armed, which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation.”

Elder also quoted Hitler, “The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so.”

And when the totalitarian state of America is created with your help, and like Stalin’s and Hitler’s, ends up with millions dead, I am sure we will read denials from this paper that there is no blood on its hands.

I cannot end until I also point out the thousands of children that are slaughtered in America’s abortion mills each day, as you give plenty of ink to Kristi McLaughlin’s feminist agenda. What kind of pastor doesn’t understand that patriarchy is a key component to biblical Christianity? Her anti-gun crusade is just another part of her anti-male agenda.

We need our schools to put Bibles back in the hands of our kids, and guns back into the hands of the law-abiding citizen in order to best protect our children from the evils of this world.
