PLANKINTON — Deric Denning scored a game-high 34 points as Mount Vernon/Plankinton defeated Dakota Christian 85-69 in a high school boys’ basketball game Thursday.
Jared Long added 18 points for the Titans and Kellam Karst finished with 15 points. MVP made 33 field goals on 62 attempts for 53 percent. The team shot 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.
Nick Lawson was MVP’s leading rebounder with seven of the team’s 29 rebounds. Karst recorded five assists in the win.
The Titans, who are 3-1 this season, recorded 14 turnovers. MVP sees its next action in the Parkston Classic Dec. 29.
Zach Van Zee led the Cadets with 23 points. Jake Spoelstra added 10 points. Dakota Christian shot 30-of-46 from the field and made 3 of its 6 free throws.
Dakota Christian recorded 20 team rebounds in the loss and turned the ball over 17 times. The 1-4 Cadets play South Central Jan. 3 in Burke.

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Corsica/Stickney improved to 2-1 with a 61-20 win over Wessington Springs Thursday.
Lane Thomas led Corsica/Stickney with 14 points. Allen Muilenberg scored nine points. Adam Bormann grabbed seven of the Jaguars’ 38 rebounds. Corsica/Stickney turned the ball over seven times.
Braden Jones and Jevon Hohn each scored seven points for Wessington Springs. The Spartans totaled 25 team rebounds and committed 14 turnovers.
Corsica/Stickney plays Wolsey-Wessington Dec. 29 in Parkston. Wessington Springs (0-3) plays Highmore-Harrold Dec. 27 in Highmore.
Winner 67, Lead-Deadwood 53
WINNER — Tanner Fritz led the Winner Warriors to a 67-53 win over Lead-Deadwood in a high school boys’ basketball game Thursday.
Fritz scored 23 points in the win and grabbed eight rebounds. Brendan Harter added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Winner shot 24-of-57 from the field for 42 percent and 15-of-19 for 79 percent from the free-throw line. The Warriors, who also won the junior varsity game 41-40, totaled 30 rebounds and 10 turnovers.
Winner is 2-2 and plays Bon Homme Thursday in Tyndall. Lead-Deadwood is 2-4 and plays in the East-West Tournament Dec. 29 in Chamberlain.

VIBORG — Tripp-Delmont/Amour fell to Viborg-Hurley 59-30 in a boys’ basketball game Thursday.
Trevor Payer scored 11 points for Tripp-Delmont/Armour, who shot 8-of-35 from the field and 9-of-23 from the free-throw line.
The Nighthawks totaled 27 team rebounds and 19 turnovers.

ALEXANDRIA — Hanson had three players score in double digits as the Beavers defeated Lake Preston 76-44.
Matt Huber led the Beavers with 23 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Marquardt scored 19 points and recorded 10 assists. Sam Vander Stouwe added 15 points.
Hanson, who also won the junior varsity game with a score of 53-33, shot 31-of-55 from the field and 8-of-13 from the line. The Beavers recorded 23 rebounds, while Lake Preston recorded 28. Hanson had seven turnovers to Lake Preston’s 20.
Hanson, undefeated at 6-0, plays at Freeman Academy Jan. 4, while Lake Preston (1-4) plays Waverly-South Shore Dec. 27 in Brookings.

FREEMAN — Menno picked up a win on the road with a 51-35 win over Freeman Academy in a high school boys’ basketball game Thursday.
Caleb Preszler scored 18 points and recorded nine rebounds for the Wolves. Austin Herrboldt added 17 points.
Menno shot 18-of-50 from the field and 12-of-19 from the free-throw line. The Wolves totaled 22 rebounds and 16 turnovers. Menno hosts Irene-Wakonda Saturday.
Noah Yoder scored 14 points for the Bobcats, who made 15-of-33 field goals and shot 1-of-7 from the free-throw line. Freeman, who dropped to 1-of-4 with the loss, totaled 22 team rebounds and 27 turnovers.
Freeman Academy hosts Hanson Jan. 4. The Bobcats won the junior varsity game 42-26.

DELL RAPIDS — Canistota’s Jason Van Winkle had 21 points and 15 rebounds in an 82-25 win over Dell Rapids St. Mary Thursday.
Also for the Hawks, Eric Tieszen had 11 points and Alex Robertson, Cody Bunger and Nick Hofer each added 10 points.
The Hawks were 36-of-65 from the field, 6-of-15 from the free-throw line and had 12 turnovers.
Canistota (4-0) won the JV game and plays Jan. 5 at Freeman against the Flyers.

Devin Tebay was the leading scorer for the Spartans with 11 points, while Sheyanne Brodkorb scored 10 points. Wessington Springs went 10-of-39 from the field and 5-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Shyanne Kopfmann led the team with nine rebounds of a total 22. The Spartans, who move to 2-3 with the loss, totaled 21 turnovers in the game.

FREEMAN — Josie DeGroot and Kelly Knudson recorded double-doubles to lead Platte-Geddes over Freeman 67-48 in a high school girls’ basketball game Thursday.
DeGroot scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Panthers. Kelly Knudson added 14 points, nine rebounds and 12 assists.
Platte-Geddes shot 31-of-72 from the field in the win and 2-of-6 from the free-throw line. The 4-1 Panthers totaled 49 rebounds and turned the ball over 16 times.
Dina Soulek led Freeman with 26 points and six rebounds. Freeman shot 16-of-50 from the field and 12-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Cailey Roth had four of the team’s 21 rebounds. Nicole Saarie had six assists in the win. Freeman, who is 1-3, committed 13 turnovers.
