DWU's Lamb named GPAC player of week

Scrolling down the Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball team’s stat sheet, Elizabeth Lamb may be overlooked.

The senior from Onida doesn’t have gaudy numbers that stand out. But through 14 games, Lamb is averaging nine points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

The Tiger guard was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference/Hauff Mid-America Sports player of the week for her combined performance in two games last week.

The senior averaged 14 points and 3.5 steals per game to help DWU win two conference games and improve to 10-4 on the season.

Lamb scored 10 points and recorded three steals against Mount Marty Dec. 12 in Yankton. Lamb bested her previous performance by draining four 3-pointers en rout to scoring a season-high 18 points and coming away with four steals in a contest Saturday against Doane College at the Corn Palace.

Lamb does not lead the Tigers in any major offensive category but has been a consistent contributor and has started every game.

Kim Johnson leads DWU in scoring with 20.5 points per game, Brittany Hills has the most steals with 33 and Amanda Hart has knocked the most 3-pointers with 38.

Dakota Wesleyan and Lamb take the court again Thursday in a nonconference game against Ashford University in the JustAgame Winter Classic in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

DWU women first in NAIA D-2 in 3-pt field goal percentage

Three-point baskets have fallen for the Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball team.

The Tigers are shooting 38.6 percent behind the arc to lead all National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes Division II teams.

DWU has three players who have made more than 10 3-pointers, all are shooting better than 30 percent from behind the arc. Celeste Beck leads the bunch shooting a blistering 58 percent. She’s followed by Kim Johnson with a 42.4 average and Amanda Hart with 36.9 and Elizabeth Lamb with 32.7.

Voss reaches double digit double-doubles

In just 15 games, Dakota Wesleyan forward Jalen Voss has 10 double-doubles.

The DWU big man recorded his most recent one Monday in an 85-71 victory over Kansas Wesleyan with a 21-point 14-rebound performance.

The next closest players to Voss’s league-leading 10 doubles-doubles are Doane’s Connor Beranek and Midland’s Jerome Vaughn, who each have four.

With help from Voss’ contributions, the Tigers have won two games in a row and climbed back to the .500 mark overall with a 7-7 record and sit 3-4 in the GPAC.

Voss is averaging a team-leading 14 points per game and is currently leading the GPAC in rebounding with 9.9 rebounds per game.

Last season, the 6-foot-7, 240-pounder only recorded two double-doubles and averaged 9.9 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game in 30 games, 27 of which he started.

Three other DWU men are averaging more than 10 points this season as well. Mike Lee is averaging 12.5, Luke Bamberg at 12.4 and Bo LaCroix with 11.1.

Morningside’s Danny Rudeen leads the GPAC in scoring with a 20.6 points per game average.

Voss and the Dakota Wesleyan men return to action Dec 28. against San Diego Christian College in San Diego.
