Area girls' and boys' basketball roundup: Blackhawks stay unbeaten, top Tigers

The Blackhawks defeated Howard 60-42 in a high school girls’ basketball game Monday.

Marissa Weber had 12 points and Rachel Selland recorded 10 points for the Blackhawks. Rachelle Moore had five assists, nine points and four steals in the loss. The team had 32 rebounds and 20 turnovers and was 19-of-57 from the field.

Jenna Clark led Howard with 17 points and McKenna Rudebusch had seven rebounds in the loss. The Tigers totaled 23 rebounds and 23 turnovers and was 16-of-51 from the field.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (3-0) plays Hitchcock-Tulare on Dec. 29, Howard (0-4) plays at Arlington today.

Kimball/White Lake 47, Dakota Christian 44 (OT)

WHITE LAKE — Kimball/White Lake’s Hailey Mohnen hit a 3-pointer as time expired to tie the game at 42.

The shot send the game to extra minutes, and KWL outscored Dakota Christian 5-2 in overtime for a 47-44 victory Monday. Mohnen finished with seven points and five assists for KWL, which picked up its third win of the year.

KWL’s Jazmyn Hinker had 18 points and Maria Nightingale had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Ivy Haines also added 10 rebounds.

Dakota Christian’s Brooklyn VanderPol had 18 points and seven rebounds. Anna VanderPol had nine points and Amber Baan Hofmann had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Kimball/White Lake (3-2) won the JV game and hosts the Holiday Classic Dec. 27 in Kimball. KWL plays Colome in the first round. Dakota Christian (3-3) plays next Jan. 5 against Marion in New Holland.

Parkston 69, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 31

PARKSTON — The Parkston girls’ basketball team defeated Tripp-Delmont/Armour 69-31 in a high school girls’ basketball game Monday in Parkston.

Parkston’s Erica Herrold had 20 points, McKenzie Weidenbach tallied 15, Krista Radke recorded 10 and Justene Alley added 10 points in the win. Alexis Horstman brought down 10 rebounds. The Trojans had 28 rebounds and shot 44 percent from the field.

TDA’s Kelli Batterman had 10 points and seven rebounds. The Nighthawks had 27 rebounds and 20 percent from the field.

Parkston (4-1) plays Corsica/Stickney Friday in Corsica, TDA (0-7) plays Viborg-Hurley Thursday.

McCook Central/Montrose 40, Tea Area 39

MONTROSE — McCook Central/Montrose defeated Tea Area 40-39 in high school girls’ basketball action Monday.

Rachael Bartscher led the Fighting Cougars with 17 points. MCM was 14-of-41 from the field.

Amanda Heesch recorded 15 points and Crystal Zitterich tallied 11 points. The Titans were 15-of-37 from the field.

MCM (4-1) also won the JV game and plays Hanson Jan. 8, while Tea Area (0-5) play West Central Thursday.

Parker 70, Bon Homme 38

PARKER — Parker had four players in double scoring figures as it went on to beat Bon Homme 70-38 Monday.

Amber Dysthe and Morgan Hay each recorded 16 points in the win. Parker shot 54 percent from the field and was 10-of-18 at the free throw line.

Liz Kubal led Bon Homme with 11 points. Megan Schmidt tallied six points and Karlee Kozak tallied five points. The Cavaliers shot 36 percent from the field and were 2-of-8 from the free throw line.

Parker (2-3) plays Sioux Valley Thursday in Volga, while Bon Homme plays Irene-Wakonda Thursday in Irene.

Andes Central 34, Freeman Academy 31

FREEMAN — Kellie Winckler recorded a double-double in Andes Central’s 34-31 victory over Freeman Academy Monday.

Winckler had 15 points and 16 rebounds in the win.

Chelsea Wentz recorded 12 points and eight rebounds for Freeman Academy. Hannah Yoder tallied 10 points and Olivia Boese added six assists.

Andes Central (3-1) hosts South Central Jan. 3, Freeman (1-3) host Menno Thursday.

Platte-Geddes 57, South Central 45

PLATTE — Matthew Randall recorded 19 points and six rebounds in Platte-Geddes’ 57-45 win over South Central in high school boys’ basketball action Monday.

Tate Van Zee tallied 13 points for the Blank Panthers and Hunter Johnson had 11 points and five rebounds. Platte-Geddes was 20-of-38 from the field and 10-of-14 from the free throw line.

Tyler Frank led South Central, which won the JV game, with 21 points. Dakota Votaw had 10 points in the loss. The Cougars were 15-of-44 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free throw line.

Platte-Geddes (3-0) plays Douglas in the Chamberlain Classic 29, while South Central (3-1) plays Kadoka Area Dec. 28 in Presho.

CANISTOTA — Alex Robertson had 15 points and five assists in Canistota’s 66-31 victory over Bridgewater-Emery Monday in Canistota.

Canistota’s Cody Bunger recorded 12 points, Boone DeKramer added 11 points and four steals and Jason VanWinkle brought down 13 rebounds. The Hawks shot 45 percent from the field and 67 from the free throw line.

Bridgewater-Emery’s Clayton Dye recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Huskies shot 21 percent from the field and 57 percent from the free throw line.

Canistota (3-0) also won the JV game and plays Dell Rapids St. Mary Thursday, Bridgewater-Emery (2-2) plays at Freeman Jan. 4.

FORESTBURG — Davion Brooks scored 18 points to help lead Sanborn Central/Woonsocket over Howard 65-56 Monday.

Tyler Krueger recorded 15 points and Nick Miller had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Blackhawks. SCW, which won the JV game, shot 35 percent from the field.

Howard’s Steve Larson led all players with 20 points. Cal Weise had 15 points and Cole Potter tallied 13.

SCW (3-0) plays Hitchcock-Tulare Dec. 29, while Howard (1-3) plays at Arlington today.

Andes Central 67, Freeman Academy 36

FREEMAN — Zach Cournoyer scored 16 points to help Andes Central defeat Freeman Academy 67-36.

Andes Central center Aaron Swanson chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Noah Yoder led Freeman Academy in scoring with 11 points.

The Eagles (2-1) host Tripp-Delmont/Armour today, while Freeman Academy hosts Menno Thursday.
