AREA BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Dye helps Bridgewater-Emery past TDA

ARMOUR — Clayton Dye’s 20 points and 11 rebounds led the way to a 60-45 Bridgewater-Emery victory over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Saturday in a boys’ high school basketball game.

ARMOUR — Clayton Dye’s 20 points and 11 rebounds led the way to a 60-45 Bridgewater-Emery victory over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Saturday in a boys’ high school basketball game.

Wade Miller added 13 points and Jacob Schweitzer had 12 to help the Huskies to their second win of the season. Terry Weber added 11 rebounds.

Bridgewater-Emery was 26-of-49 from the field, 3-of-6 from the free-throw line and had 33 rebounds.

TDA’s Austin Barlow had 15 points, Trevor Payer had 13 points and Cody Hrdlicka had 10 points. Payer and Hrdlicka each had four rebounds and Barlow had five steals and six assists.

The Nighthawks, who claimed the JV game, were 17-of-39 from the field and 7-of-10 from the line. They had 16 rebounds and both teams committed 14 turnovers.

Bridgewater-Emery travels to play Canistota on the road today, while TDA (1-3) plays Tuesday against Andes Central in Lake Andes.

Hanson 51, Avon 34

AVON — Jordan Marquardt’s 27 points helped Hanson to a 51-34 win over Avon Saturday.

Hanson got six rebounds from Matt Huber, three assists from Trey Person and made 16 of its 38 field goal attempts. The Beavers were 10-of-13 from the foul line and committed 13 turnovers.

Avon’s Logan Powers had 14 points, Brandon Kocmich had 13 points and four steals and Logan Mudder had six rebounds and three assists.

The Pirates were 13-of-39 from the field, 6-of-11 from the free-throw line and had 11 turnovers.

Avon (0-3) plays Tuesday at Parkston, while Hanson (4-0) hosts Marion Tuesday in Alexandria.

Wagner 63, Dakota Christian 47

WAGNER — Noah St. Pierre’s double-double lifted Wagner past Dakota Christian 63-47 Saturday.

Pierre had 20 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Red Raiders jump out to a 23-9 first-quarter lead.

Will Hollmann had 11 points and Dylan Brunsing had 10 for Wagner, which shot 20-of-55 from the field and 8-of-15 from the free-throw line. Wagner had eight turnovers and won the rebounding battle 31-20.

Dakota Christian’s Jake Spoelstra had 12 points and seven rebounds and Owen Medicine had six points and four assists. DC was 19-of-54 from the field, 5-of-9 from the foul line and had 17 turnovers.

Wagner, which won the JV game, is 2-0 and plays in the Parkston Classic next. DC is 0-3 and hosts Bon Homme Tuesday.

Lyman 62, Bennett County 31

PRESHO — Lyman held a 13-point lead after the first eight minutes and never looked back in a 62-31 win over Bennett County Saturday.

Jaylen Uthe had a game-high 19 points, Charlie LaRoche had 11 points and five rebounds and Trey Mundlien had 10 points.

Lyman was 11-of-18 from the free-throw line and had 24 rebounds to Bennett County’s 16.

Bennett County was led by Kiki Heath, who had eight points. BC hit five of eight free throws.

Lyman (2-1) plays Sunshine Bible Dec. 28 next, while Bennett County dropped to 2-2.

Freeman Academy 68, Walthill (Neb.) 54

FREEMAN — Freeman Academy picked up its first win of the year Saturday, beating Walthill 68-54 at home.

For Freeman Academy, Josh Stahl had 19 points, Noah Yoder had 14 points and Andrew Graber added 11 points and seven rebounds.

FA (1-2) hosts Andes Central today in Freeman.

South Central 51, Stuart, Neb. 43

STUART, Neb. — South Central rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to beat Stuart, Neb., 51-43 Saturday.

Tyler Frank had 22 points and six rebounds to lead South Central, which is 3-0 and travels to play Platte-Geddes today in Platte.

Dakota Votaw had a team-high seven rebounds.

SC was 20-of-42 from the field and 13-of-21 from the free-throw line. The Cougars had 16 turnovers to Stuart’s 13.

Kayser added five assists and Dye had four steals for the Huskies, who were 17-of-51 from the field, 12-of-19 from the foul line and had 11 turnovers.

Bridgewater-Emery had 34 rebounds to TDA’s 19.

TDA’s Hannah Just had 15 points and four steals and Kelli Batterman added 12 points and six rebounds.

The Nighthawks were 14-of-40 from the field, 12-of-29 from the free-throw line and committed nine turnovers.

BE (3-2) plays Canistota Tuesday in Bridgewater, while TDA (0-6) plays at Parkston today.

Bridgewater-Emery won the JV game19-13.

FREEMAN — Clara Koerner had 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead Freeman Academy to its first win of the year Saturday.

Koerner’s big game led to a 51-31 win over Walthill, Neb.

Also for Freeman Academy, Chelsea Wentz had 10 points and six steals and Olivia Boese added five steals.

Freeman Academy was 21-of-57 from the field and 5-of-13 from the foul line.

WAGNER — Ali Kuca’s double-double helped Wagner to a 49-41 win over Dakota Christian Saturday.

She had a game-high 19 points and 13 rebounds and five steals, while Nicole Weber had 11 points and five rebounds and Gina Soukup had six rebounds.

The Red Raiders, who won the JV game, were 17-of-48 from the free-throw line in the win. They hit 10 of 21 free throws and won the rebounding battle 36-25.

Dakota Christian’s Brooklyn VanderPol had 14 points and Shayla VanderPol and Sam Delange each had 10 points.

DC was 17-of-41 from the field, 6-of-12 from the free-throw line and committed 19 turnovers.

Wagner (4-1) hosts Hanson Friday, while Dakota Christian (3-2) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour Jan. 7 in Armour.

SCOTLAND — Aisha Abbink’s 16 points and Kennidy Ashe’s 12 helped Scotland beat Ethan 40-37 Saturday.

Abbink had two rebounds, two assists and three steals and Asche had three rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Highlanders, are now 3-1 on the season.

Ethan’s Darbi Gustafson had 12 points and eight rebounds, Gailey Grenoble had eight points and Rachel Hawkins and Anna Mueller had six points and five rebounds.

Scotland plays at Chamberlain Saturday in its next game, while Ethan (1-2) plays James Valley Christian in Huron Tuesday.
