Marlin boys split weekend games against Rapid City Rushmore

RAPID CITY — The Mitchell Marlins boys’ hockey team split a pair of games over the weekend against the Rapid City Rushmore.
The Marlins defeated Rapid City 4-3 Saturday but lost 8-2 Sunday.
Saturday, Mitchell scored three third-period goals en route to victory. Rushmore led 3-1 headed into the final period. Mitchell’s Jordan Grosdidier had a hat trick, scoring his final goal at the 12:30 mark of the third period for the game-winner. Dustin Hughes also had a goal that came in the third period.
Weston Gauger had 42 saves in the victory for Mitchell.
Rapid City led 8-0 before Mitchell got on the board in Sunday’s game.
Jacob Rice and Grosdidier each had goals for the Marlins, who are now 2-4 on the season. Rice had two assists on the weekend and Cole Carlson had one. Gauger added 41 saves Sunday.
Mitchell’s next game is Sat-urday in Brookings against the Rangers.
Marlin girls tie with Huron Saturday
HURON — Haley Stahl’s first-period goal was all the Marlin girls’ hockey team got Saturday, leading to a 1-all tie against the Huron All-Stars.
Huron got its goal in the third period and neither team scored in overtime.
Mitchell goalie Hannah Spates had 44 saves. The Marlins are 2-3-2 this season and play their next game at 6 p.m. Saturday in Mitchell against Watertown.
