Things to remember

OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULED: Lutheran Social Services will host a holiday open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at their offices on the second floor of Wells Fargo Bank, Mitchell.

SANTA ON THE ROOF FUNDRAISER: United Blood Services will once again sponsor the “Santa on the Roof” blood drive from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the draw center, Mitchell.

Santa will be on the roof at the collection center until 56 pints of blood are collected. Donors will be eligible for door prizes. Walk-in donors are welcome. For more information, call 996-3688.

Today in local history

On the front page of The Daily Republic on this date in 2007 was the fire which consumed Janitors Express, located at 200 N. Main. The fire was contained to the Gale Building at 10 p.m. the previous night, according to Chief of Public Safety Lyndon Overweg.
