12/15 Sports briefs: Athletic events rescheduled at Freeman school

Several sporting events have been rescheduled at Freeman High School because of the death of a student.

Several sporting events have been rescheduled at Freeman High School because of the death of a student.

The wrestling triangular at Scotland that was scheduled for Thursday was moved to Feb. 5 at Scotland. Today, the Marion/Freeman wrestling team will not participate in the tournament in Plankinton.

The boys’ basketball game against Canistota scheduled for Thursday was postponed and will be played Jan. 5 at Freeman.

Two girls’ basketball games were also rescheduled. On Friday, Freeman was supposed to play at Canistota. That game is being moved to Friday, Dec. 21. The girls’ team was scheduled to host Platte-Geddes, but that game is being moved to Thursday.

A junior high girls’ basketball game at Parkston that was scheduled for Thursday was canceled and will not be made up.

Watertown middle school wrestling meet canceled due to weather

The Mitchell Middle School wrestling team will not attend the Watertown tournament today.

The event has been canceled due to icy conditions. The event will not be made up.

Dakota Wesleyan volleyball team signs four players

The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team announced four signings recently.

Right-side hitter Tara Ronke, a Bon Homme High School graduate, is transferring from Dakota State University. Ronke, a Tyndall native, ran cross country for DSU. She earned two varsity letters in high school volleyball and had a 93 percent serve-receive rate and a 91 percent service rate as a senior.

Others to join the Tigers’ roster are setter Ellen Fowler, defensive specialist Kaitlyn Foote and middle hitter Katie Vetch.

Fowler comes from Castaic, Calif., and is a true freshman. Foote, from West Central High School, had 43 service aces and 238 digs in her senior season.

Vetch is from Lake Crystal, Minn., and had 378 kills in her senior season.

Today’s MHS boys’ basketball game a Booster Club event

Today’s Mitchell High School boys’ basketball game against Rapid City Stevens is a Booster Club event.

Anyone with a membership card will be granted free admittance if it’s shown.

Marlin boys fall to Rushmore 5-0

RAPID CITY — The Marlin boys’ varsity hockey team was shut out by Rushmore Thunder 5-0 Friday in Rapid City.

The Marlins made 20 shots on goal and Mitchell goalie Weston Gauger made 33 saves in the game. The Thunder had 38 shots on goal.

The teams meet two more times this weekend, playing at 7 p.m. Central time today and 11:30 a.m. Central time Sunday.
