There are now four people hoping to fill the Mitchell City Council seat that will be vacated in a month. Mayor Ken Tracy said he has received five applications, but one person later withdrew his name. He said three men and one woman are being considered.

“I think I will accept applications up to the first of the year,” Tracy said.

Ward 4 Councilman Greg McCurry will resign effective Jan 15. McCurry, who was elected to the council in June 2011, is moving out of his ward.

Tracy said he plans to name someone to the council in time for the second council meeting of the new year on Jan. 21.

Tracy said people should tell him they’re interested, drop by City Hall, call him, send an email or submit a letter or resume.

He will conduct interviews and will likely ask Council President Jeff Smith to sit in.

Tracy will recommend a candidate to the council, which must confirm his choice.

Applicants must live in Ward 4, which is bordered by Main Street on the east and Fourth Avenue on the south.

It encompasses Lake Mitchell and the surrounding area.
