AVON — Tom Culver’s heart is 100 percent healthy, he learned Friday afternoon.
The 52-year-old Avon superintendent had a scare Thursday morning with chest pains. School business manager Jay Weber drove Culver to the hospital in Tyndall. He was eventually airlifted to Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. He stayed overnight and completed a stress test Friday morning.
“I passed with flying colors,” Culver said. “There was nothing in the stress test that showed anything irregular. … They called it an esophageal spasm, where some of the symptoms mimic a heart attack.”
The Daily Republic was told by two sources Thursday Culver suffered what was to be believed a heart attack.
“It wasn’t what we thought it was,” Culver said.
Culver, who’s also the school’s athletic director and high school football coach, said he received a lot of calls, emails and messages with people sending their thoughts. He said the support and concern has been overwhelming. Friday, he was back at home, and he plans to return to work Monday.
“It was scary, but I’d like to thank everyone for their concerns and prayers,” Culver said.
