Area girls' basketball roundup: Hanson scores 22 second-quarter points in win

ALEXANDRIA — Hanson scored 22 second-quarter points on its way to a 72-18 win over Bridgewater-Emery Thursday in a high school girls’ basketball game.

Cassidy Graham had a team-best 18 points, Kynedi Cheeseman had nine points and Kendra Cheeseman had eight points and five assists for the Beavers, who are 2-0 and host Parkston Monday in Alexandria.

Lindsi Dey added nine rebounds for Hanson, which shot 30-of-54 from the field and 9-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Beavers added 32 rebounds and nine turnovers.

For Bridgewater-Emery, Justine Dye had four points. The Huskies were 7-of-12 from the field.

B-E (1-1) hosts Viborg-Hurley Tuesday in Emery. Hanson also claimed the JV game.

Kimball/White Lake 54,

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 30

WHITE LAKE — Maria Nightingale scored 28 points to lead Kimball/White Lake 54-30 over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Thursday.

Hailey Mohnen scored eight points in the WiLdKats’ win. Nightingale recorded a team-high nine rebounds and seven steals. Jazmyn Hinker finished the night with five assists.

As a team, KWL accumulated 31 rebounds and committed 16 turnovers.

Kelli Batterman was the scoring leader for TDA with 14 points. Hannah Just added eight points. Batterman led the Nighthawks with eight rebounds.

KWL is 1-1 this season and hosts Platte-Geddes Tuesday in Kimball. TDA (0-2) hosts Menno Saturday in Tripp.

Kimball/White Lake won the junior varsity game 34-16.

Sioux Valley 60, Howard 33

HOWARD — Howard fell to Sioux Valley 60-33 in its opening game of the season.

Carley Peterson scored 16 points for the Cossacks. Kaylee Granum added 11 points. Brinn Jensen had six rebounds.

Sioux Valley (1-1) shot 31-of-69 from the field and 6-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Cossacks record 33 team rebounds and committed 12 turnovers.

Jenna Clark led the Tigers with 11 points. Shelby Wingen recorded seven rebounds.

Howard (0-1) shot 13-of-49 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. The Tigers committed 15 turnovers and had 33 team rebounds. Howard hosts Chester Tuesday.

Sioux Valley won the junior varsity game 40-20.

Marion 54, Canistota 39

CANISTOTA — Katherine Luke scored 15 points to lead Marion over Canistota 54-39 Thursday.

Kylie Hughes scored nine points for the Bears. Josie Schmidt led Canistota with seven rebounds.

Marion shot 20-of-44 from the field and 13-of-24 from the free-throw line. The Bears recorded 30 rebounds.

Chloe Nielsen was the leading scorer for Canistota with 16 points. Nielsen and Natasha Letcher each recorded five rebounds. Letcher also had three steals.

Canistota was 14-of-46 from the field and 11-of-24 from the free-throw line. The Hawks totaled 27 team rebounds and had 25 turnovers.

Marion is 1-1 this season and plays Hanson Dec. 18 in Alexandria. Canistota is 0-2 this season and hosts Viborg-Hurley Thursday.

Wessington Springs 49,

James Valley Christian 45

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Wessington Springs had three players score in double digits as the Spartans defeated James Valley Christian 49-45 to open the high school girls’ basketball season.

Shyanne Kopfmann scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds in the win. Devin Tebay scored 15 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. Sheyanne Brodkorb scored 13 points.

The Spartans shot 21 for 57 from the field and 13-of- 22 from the free-throw line. The team accumulated 44 rebounds and had 14 turnovers.

Tara Nihart scored 21 points for the Vikings. Hannah Loban scored 12 points.

JVC shot 16-of-58 from the field and 6-of-14 from the free-throw line. The Vikings totaled 27 team rebounds and 16 turnovers.

Wessington Springs (1-0) plays at Mitchell Christian Saturday. JVC (1-1) plays Highmore-Harrold Tuesday in Highmore.

Wessington Springs won the junior varsity game 36-32.

Andes Central 39, Colome 21

LAKE ANDES — Andes Central improved to 2-0 with a 39-21 win over Colome Thursday.

Lauren Week and Mariah Kinzer scored 12 points apiece in the win. Morgan Hofeldt added 10 points.

Andes Central hosts Mitchell Christian Dec. 14 in Lakes Andes.

Tiffany Hauf scored nine points for Colome. Tracy Routh finished the game with six rebounds.

Colome is 0-2 this season and hosts Marty Indian Tuesday.

Dakota Christian 59,

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 45

NEW HOLLAND — Brooklyn Vander Pol recorded a double-double to help the Dakota Christian defeat Mount Vernon/Plankinton 59-45.

Vander Pol finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Sammie DeLange added 11 points and four assists. Dakota Christian shot 42 percent from the field and brought down 29 rebounds.

Payleen O’day led the Titans with 10 points.

Dakota Christian (2-0) hosts Platte-Geddes Saturday, while Mount Vernon/Plankinton (0-2) takes on Corsica/Stickney today at Plankinton.
