Man arrested near Alpena after chase
Suspect faces warrants in KansasBy: Staff reports, The Daily Republic
ALPENA — A Kansas man is in custody after a chase led to a crash Monday morning in Jerauld County near Alpena.
Charles Leroy Beeney Jr., 47, of Lansing, Kan., apparently was driving a North Dakota-plated pickup and reportedly took diesel fuel from a farm yard.
Jerauld County Sheriff Jason Weber initiated a pursuit at 9:30 a.m. after receiving the call.
The pursuit ended eight miles west of Alpena in a field when the driver of the pickup crashed the 2013 Chevrolet Duramax into a creek.
Law enforcement took Beeney into custody without further incident, Weber said. Beeney has felony warrants from Kansas, and an Internet search on his name brings up an extensive criminal record.
The Jerauld County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
Assisting in the pursuit were personnel from sheriff’s offices in Sanborn County, Buffalo County, Beadle County and Hand County, as well as the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
