MONTROSE — A 28-year-old Salem woman was killed early Monday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash on state Highway 38 near Montrose.
According to South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Mark Nelson, Amanda Heiberger was westbound on Highway 38 in a 2003 Chevy Impala when the vehicle entered the north ditch about one-quarter mile west of Montrose and struck a driveway, which launched the vehicle and caused it to roll approximately two times.
Heiberger was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle in the crash, Nelson said. She had no passengers.
The wrecked vehicle was discovered around 7 a.m. by workers heading to Agri-Energy Propane in Montrose, Nelson said.
Heiberger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family was notified of the crash Monday morning.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, Nelson said.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated the incident. The McCook County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Ambulance, and emergency responders from Montrose also responded to the crash.
