Plastow returning to Dakota Wesleyan University as dean

Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, has hired a new dean of graduate studies and new ventures, Ed Plastow, a DWU alumnus and former professor.

Plastow returns to DWU to take on the role as full-time dean after spending 15 years in various senior business, administrative and financial management and leadership positions, and 24 years in higher education. Plastow graduated from DWU in 1973 with a bachelor of arts degree and also taught business and economics at the university from 1988 to 1999.

In 1999, he left DWU to become the founding chairman of the department of business at Southeastern University (SEU). He served there for 13 years as a professor of management and oversaw the growth from its initial seven students to what is now 500 students studying in multiple disciplines in Southeastern’s College of Business and Legal Studies.

The program development included evening, online and MBA programs. Plastow was instrumental in SEU’s gaining of initial and recurring accreditation for SEU’s business programs from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.

Plastow has similar plans to grow DWU’s business and graduate programs.

“It’s great to be back at DWU,” Plastow said.

He also had a nine-year head basketball coaching record at SEU of 198-124, earning five regional titles and various honors.

Plastow is an active Christian missions and ministry leader, ordained with the Assemblies of God Church. He and his wife, Shannon, volunteer for annual summer mission assignments in the Alaska Bush at Camp Agautium Nune, “The Place of God,” where he serves in camp administration and Shannon as the camp cook for 200 campers and workers.

The Plastows have 10 children, 20 grandchildren, and one of their sons, Bob, was a DWU honor graduate who runs Plastow and Associates, a local technology company.
