SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell Kernels gymnastics team finished in second place at the Sioux Falls Invitational Friday.
Mitchell (139.3) finished behind Watertown (141.45). Sioux Falls O’Gorman was third with a 132.175.
Mitchell’s Quincy Herll took fourth in the all-around with a 36.15, first on vault (9.7), sixth on bars (8.8), fifth on beam (8.4) and third on floor (9.25).
Ellie Rew was seventh in the all-around (34.9) and Josie Dierks finished eighth (34.325).
Rew was sixth on vault (9.2) and ninth on floor (9.0). Nicole Wittstruck finished eight on floor (9.15).
Marlin boys beat All Stars 2-1

HURON — The Mitchell Marlin boys’ varsity hockey team defeated the Huron All Stars 2-1 in its first regular season game Friday.
Huron scored the first goal in the opening period, but Mitchell tied the game with a goal by Jordan Grosdidier on a power play early in the second period.
Jacob Cersosimo scored the second goal to give the Marlins the lead. Alex Thill had the assist.
The Marlins host Watertown at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell Activities Center.
Mitchell girls’ hockey team beats Rushmore

RAPID CITY — The Mitchell Marlin girls’ varsity hockey team defeated the Rushmore Thunder 3-2 Friday.
Rushmore took the lead with a goal in the first period, but the Marlins scored back-to-back goals by Kayla Murtha and Kylie Barington in the second period to go ahead.
The Thunder tied the game at 2 late in the second period with a goal by Geena Gioia.
Haley Stahl put the puck in the net in the third period to give Mitchell the 3-2 victory.
The Marlins had 30 shots on goal.
