PIERRE (AP) — A group of Sioux Falls city employees has claimed a $10,000 Powerball prize.
The 14 employees matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball to win the game’s third prize for Wednesday’s drawing. The ticket was purchased at a store in Sioux Falls.
Powerball officials said that tickets sold in Arizona and Missouri matched all six numbers to win the record $579.9 million jackpot.
State lottery officials say South Dakota players set ticket-buying records on Wednesday, purchasing $1.33 million in Powerball tickets. This surpassed the previous one-day sales record of $775,000 for a Mega Millions drawing this year. Purchases reached a peak rate of $145,000 an hour in the last hour before the drawing.
