Gregory, champion of the Great Plains Conference, had five players named to the all-conference team, it was announced recently.

Seniors Jaden Bartling and Zach Senglemann and juniors Brody Boes, Derek Stukel and Andrew Taggart were each on the list. Jonah Beck was an honorable-mention selection.

Avon’s Taylor Mudder, Brandon Kocmich, Devin Tolsma and Taylor Hento were on the all-GPC team. Teammate Logan Mudder was an honorable-mention selection.

South Central’s Turner Serr, Garrett Bruns and San Hazen were on the first team. Jordan Jones was honorable mention.

Andes Central’s Zach Cournoyer, Brian Bruguier and Gabe Cournoyer were first-teamers. Darrin Hopkins was honorable mention.

Scotland and Tripp-Delmont/Armour each had two players on the first team.

For Scotland Jared Kloucek and Dan Stibral and TDA’s Gunnar Dally and Shane Koster were honored. Marty also had two first-teamers, included were Chris BadHand and Ryan Shields. Scotland’s Logan Winckler and TDA’s Brice Caery were honorable mention.

DWU football team inviting public to banquet

The Dakota Wesleyan University football team is inviting the public to its annual pheasant hunt banquet Saturday.

The Tigers are hosting the hunt Saturday morning, and the banquet will follow at Wild Oak Golf Club.

The banquet starts at 5:30 p.m. and costs $15 per person. There will be silent and live auction items available and all of the money raised will go to the Tiger football program. Contact coach Ross Cimpl for more information. Tickets are available at the door.

Oahe YMCA to host youth tourney

PIERRE — The Oahe YMCA is hosting a yount 3-on-3 basketball tournament Dec. 27-28 in Pierre.

Fifth- and sixth-grade boys and girls are scheduled to play on Dec. 27, while seventh- and eighth- grade boys and girls play Dec. 28.

W. Illinois edges USD men 73-71

VERMILLION — Ceola Clark’s basket as time ran out gave Western Illinois a 73-71 win over South Dakota Thursday night.

South Dakota never led in the game, but Juevol Myles hit a 3 with 7 seconds left to finally draw South Dakota even at 71 before Clark’s game-winner from the lane. .

Myles had 21 points, 15 of them in the second half, for the Coyotes (3-4). Karim Rowson added 19 points — 17 in the second half.

USD women fall to Idaho State 69-45

VERMILLION — Turnovers were costly for the University of South Dakota women’s basketball team as it fell to Idaho State University 69-45 Thursday in Vermillion.

The Coyotes had 19 turnovers and shot 26.9 percent from the field, while the Bengals shot 36.9 percent.

Tempestt Wilson led USD with a season-high 14 points and Polly Harrington had 12.

Langer wins SD Gatorade Player of Year award

Dell Rapids High School senior Cole Langer has been named the South Dakota Gatorade Football Player of the year, it was announced Thursday.

Langer, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound linebacker and fullback, helped Dell Rapids to an 11-1 season with a Class A championship.

Tiger wrestlers fall to Mustangs

SIBLEY, Iowa — The No. 20-ranked Dakota Wesleyan wrestling team lost its first match of the season to fifth-ranked Morningside 24-13 Thursday.

DWU’s Trever DeVestern recorded the only pin of the day after taking down Jordan Langley at the 2:19 mark.

DeVestern’s victory was the final one of the match for the Tigers, who held a slight lead over the Mustangs after the first five matches.

But Morningside reeled off five consecutive victories to secure the win.
