HUMBOLDT — One person died and another received life-threatening injuries in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 90 one-half mile west of Humboldt in Minnehaha County, according to the state Department of Public Safety.

The names are being withheld until relatives have been notified.

A 1999 Ford Ranger was traveling eastbound on I-90 at 9:58 a.m. when the driver lost control and the vehicle slid off the roadway and rolled numerous times before coming to rest in the westbound lanes of I-90.

Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The passenger received fatal injuries and the driver received life-threatening injuries. It is believed neither person was wearing seat belts, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Speed and slippery road conditions were contributing factors to the crash.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, Minnehaha County Emergency Management, Humboldt Fire and Rescue, Humboldt Ambulance, Salem Ambulance, and McCook County Emergency Management assisted.
