WINNER — A California man has claimed a $10,007 Powerball jackpot sold in Winner.
Allen Devish bought the ticket at the Lil Feller on East Second Street in Winner. The ticket matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball to win the game’s $10,000 third prize.
It also matched three of five white ball numbers but not the Powerball on another play line of the same ticket for an additional $7.
The prize was claimed Monday at the Lottery office in Pierre by Devish, of Redding, Calif. The retailer will get a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
A far bigger prize still awaits someone else. With no jackpot winner for the Saturday drawing, the Powerball jackpot currently sits at a record $425 million for the next drawing on Wednesday.
That means a cash prize of $278.3 million.
The previous record-high Powerball jackpot was $365 million, won in 2006. The current jackpot run began on Oct. 6. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1:175,223,510.
Players who don’t hit the jackpot Wednesday night can still pocket bigger prizes if they purchase the Power Play option for an additional $1 when they buy a Powerball ticket. Tickets that have the Power Play option and match all five white ball numbers but not the red Powerball will win $2 million automatically.
Powerball tickets can be purchased at any Lottery retailer until 9 p.m. (Central time) the night of the drawing.
