A Mitchell woman was jailed Saturday on felony assault charges stemming from an early morning domestic disturbance at her east Mitchell home.
Mitchell Sgt. Dave Beintema said officers arrested Laverna Small Bear, 34, on charges of aggravated domestic assault and aggravated assault.
“She allegedly threw hot grease on her 21-year-old boyfriend during an altercation,” Beintema said, explaining the domestic assault charge.
Small Bear also allegedly tossed grease and brandished a knife at a second man, described as a 19-year-old male. The second male received a superficial wound to the hand.
Neither man was seriously injured Beintema said. Both were taken to nearby Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and released after treatment.
Small Bear is in Davison County Jail awaiting a bond hearing, Beintema said. Both charges carry prison terms of up to 15 years and a $30,000 fine.
