Author Tom Roberts, right, signs a copy of his newest book, “The Little Lost Sock,” for Brittany VandeBerg, of Mitchell, Friday morning at the Reader’s Den in Mitchell. VandeBerg said she bought the book “to help the children.” Roberts, of Sioux Falls, has written three children’s books. He said all of the proceeds from the books’ sales go to the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota, which is a nonprofit with centers in Sioux Falls and the Black Hills that provides various programs to more than 2,000 children each year, most of whom are victims of abuse or neglect. Roberts said he has been involved with the society for about 20 years and wrote the first book, “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” about 10 years ago. In the last 10 years, the trio of books has sold more than 38,000 copies and raised more than $700,000 for the society. All three books are available at the Reader’s Den and Prairie Breeze Gallery; “The Little Lost Sock” also is available at the Dakota Discovery Museum. (Candy DenOuden/Republic)
