Farnham breaks Class AA state tourney record

Mitchell High School volleyball player Megan Farnham broke the Class AA state tournament record for average digs per set.

The senior defensive specialist recorded 85 digs in 12 sets, giving her an average of 7.1 digs per set in the tournament, which was Nov. 15-17 in Rapid City.

The previous record was set by Rapid City Stevens’ Nikki Gleich, who averaged 6.46 digs per set in 2008.

Volleyball players given all-Cornbelt Conference honors

The Marion volleyball team had four players make the all-Cornbelt Conference team.

Marion’s Kylie Hughes, Erica Schoenwald and Kat Luke were named to the first team and Kaitlyn Engbrecht made the second team.

Other players on the first team were Freeman’s Dina Soulek, Bridgewater/Emery’s Mackenzie Schultz, Hanson’s Kynedi Cheeseman and Canistota’s Brianna Buseman.

Joining Engbrecht on the second team were Bridgewater/Emery’s Justine Dye, Howard’s Jenna Clark, Hanson’s Kendra Cheeseman and Abby Kayser and Freeman’s Shelby Bauer and Grace Gering.
