LETTER: Takes faith to believe in Jesus and the Bible

It still totally amazes me that Peter got out of the boat when Jesus told him “come.”

To the Editor:

It still totally amazes me that Peter got out of the boat when Jesus told him “come.” For those people who don’t know it was during the fourth watch of the night. The fourth watch of the night is between 3 and 6 a.m. in the time we use now. It would have been the ninth hour of the night to the 12th hour of the night in Jesus’ time on earth.

But, the disciples were crossing a sea and a storm came up and Jesus, who stayed behind on a mountain to pray with his father, walked on the water to go to the disciples on the boar. They freaked out when they thought they were seeing a spirit but it was truly the Lord Jesus Christ.

When Jesus told them, “don’t be afraid it is I.” Peter said to the Lord, “If it is truly you Lord, tell me to come to you and I will” That’s when Jesus said come. Peter actually had enough faith to get out of the boat and he actually walked on water himself until he realized where he was at. He lost focus of the Lord and began to sink. He cried “Lord save me.” Jesus reached down and saved him. He said to him “Oh ye of little faith.”

I used to think that I wouldn’t have gotten out of the boat and I was totally amazed at Peter’s faith. However, I have realized that it takes a lot of faith to believe in this history in the Bible and if Jesus asked me to come to him on the water I would do it.
