A soil health information day will be held Dec. 11 at the Davison County Fairgrounds Complex in Mitchell.
The day starts at 8:30 a.m. with exhibits and registration and runs through the afternoon. Certified crop advisor credits are available. Please register early, since seating is limited. The event includes a noon meal.
Nationally recognized soil expert Ray Archuleta, conservation agronomist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Greensboro, N.C., starts the day.
“Ray the Soil Guy” gets to the root of everyone’s questions about soil with his presentation “Healthy Soils Make Healthy Profits.” Archuleta specializes in soil biology/ecology, diversity approaches for agro-ecosystem sustainability, soil quality concepts, demonstrations and training applicable to field staff and producers.
Next on the agenda, attendees will hear experts on “The Biology of Soil Compaction” with Jim Hoorman, Ohio State University; “Residue, Soil Structure and Cover Crops” by Paul Jasa, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and “Catch and Release Nutrients” by internationally known Dr. Dwayne Beck, SDSU Dakota Lakes Research farm manager, Pierre.
