Mitchell man pleads no contest to robbery-related charge

A 29-year-old Mitchell man pleaded no contest Tuesday to being an accessory to first-degree robbery.

Charles Hart was arrested in September for allegedly driving his 22-year-old brother Jeremiah Hart, of Huron, to and from the area near a parking lot east of Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, where Jeremiah Hart allegedly stole a woman’s purse.

Charles Hart faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He initially pleaded not guilty to a charge of aiding and abetting first-degree robbery, a more serious charge.

A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is set for December.

Jeremiah Hart pleaded not guilty to first-degree robbery and is scheduled for trial next month. He also faces charges of reckless burning and intentional property damage for allegedly torching a stolen car early in the morning of Sept. 9 near the 900 block of West Second Avenue.
