MADISON — Dakota Wesleyan University recorded 27 assists and forced 31 turnovers in 82-59 win over Dakota State in a nonconference women’s basketball game Tuesday evening.
The win moved the Tigers to 4-0 on the season.
“We did a good job moving the basketball and we had a lot of opportunities to score,” DWU coach Jason Christensen said. “Also, when you force that many turnovers, you’re playing some pretty good defense.”
Kim Johnson’s 18 points led the Tigers offensively. Elizabeth Lamp had 16 points and Amanda Hart had 10. Taylor Piper’s seven points, seven rebounds and four steals also helped the team to the lopsided victory.
“She may not always get a steal for us, but it seems like she’s always getting her hand on the ball,” Christensen said. “She’s been that parkplug we need.”
The Tigers travel to Sioux Falls to play NCAA Division II opponent Augustana in a 6 p.m. exhibition game today. Christensen said it will be good experience headed into the Tigers’ first Great Plains Athletic Conference game of the year, which is at 2 p.m. Saturday against Briar Cliff in Sioux City, Iowa.
“We want to get better going into Saturday,” he said. “Augustana is a lot like Briar Cliff and this will help us out.”
