Queen of Peace names new chief medical officer

David A. Balt has been named chief medical officer for Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. He is a member of the Avera Queen of Peace Medical/Dental Staff and is one of three physicians who provide full-time medical coverage for the Avera Queen of Peace Emergency Department.

His primary responsibility will be to develop and strengthen physician and clinic relationships throughout the region. He will promote effective physician and health system relationships and will be key to achieving clinical quality improvements.

“We’re extremely pleased that Dr. Balt has accepted our invitation to serve as chief medical officer for the hospital,” said Avera Queen of Peace President and CEO Tom Clark. “It’s important to have a member of hospital leadership who represents the physician perspective and is able to serve as a physician advocate.”

Balt received his bachelor of science degree in biology from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa, and his osteopathic degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo. He completed a family practice residency at Charleston, S.C., Naval Hospital.

Balt is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Osteopathic Association. He and his wife, Cindy, have seven children.
