Sports briefs: Huber, Tieszen named MVPs of Cornbelt

Anthony Huber and Eric Tieszen were named co-MVPs of the all-Cornbelt Conference football team, it was announced Monday.

Huber is a fullback for Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan, and Tieszen is a linebacker for Canistota.

Canistota, which won its second straight Class 9A title over the weekend, had seven players on the first-team list. Quarterback Cody Bunger, running back Alex Robertson, receiver Nick Hofer, offensive lineman Tyler Decker, defensive lineman Jason Van Winkle and linebacker Boone DeKramer joined Tieszen on the first team.

BEE had five players make the first-team list, including tight end Clayton Dye, offensive lineman Franky Tusha, defensive lineman Austin Bunger and defensive back Jace Connor.

Howard, the state’s 9AA runner-up, had five players on the first team. Running back Cole Potter, tight end Andrew Schwader, offensive lineman Nathan Dawson, linebacker Hunter Eggert and defensive back Evan Donahue were named to the list.

Freeman defensive lineman Caleb Lang, Mount Vernon linebacker Kote Hinker and Hanson defensive back Tyler Pringle rounded out the first-team list on defense.

Listed below are the second-team honorees:

Gonzalez, Lopez, Mora honored by conference

Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer players Hugo Gonzalez, Jose Lopez and Carlos Mora were named to the all-Great Plains Athletic Conference list, it was announced Monday.

Lopez was named to the second team and Lopez and Mora were on honorable-mention list.

Gonzalez, a senior, graduates with 21 goals, 17 assists and 59 points in three seasons. He also had six game-winning goals.

Rodriguez, Hubbard, Peterson earn GPAC Conference honors

The Dakota Wesleyan women’s soccer team had three players, Yutzil Rodriguez, Abby Hubbard and Linsey Peterson, land on the all-Great Plains Athletic Conference list, it was announced Monday.

This is the third honor for Rodriguez, a senior, and Peterson, a junior. For Hubbard, also a senior, it is her first conference honor.

Chamberlain, Winner get 3 Big Dakota Conference selections

Chamberlain and Winner high schools each had three players make the Big Dakota all-conference list, it was announced Monday.

Chamberlain’s Laura Pazour, Kennedy Wagner and Jaymee Knippling each made the list. Winner’s Cassidy Hanson, Sara Husher and Emily Richey were also honored.

Other players on the all-conference team are Callie Slater, Kady Pinney, Mobridge-Pollock; Jamie Mentzer, Kristen Peterka, Miller; Hailey Norman, Stanley County; Danielle Dupris, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte; Miki Colombe, Todd County.
