There is a mandatory meeting for all players, who will be playing Mitchell High School boys’ basketball this winter, and their parents Tuesday in the MHS library.

Players in grades nine through 12 should attend.

The meeting for players is set for 6 p.m. and the meeting for parents and players is at 7 p.m.

Mitchell girls earn conference awards

WATERTOWN — Four girls from the Mitchell High School cheer and dance teams were recognized at the Eastern South Dakota Competitive Cheer and Competitive Dance Competition on Oct. 11 in Watertown.

Senior Jesse Volek and junior Allie Hanson were honored with the ESD Coaches Award in cheer. Junior Trystin Smith and freshman Paige Grace were recognized with the ESD Coaches Award for dance.

SF Washington claims 11AA title

VERMILLION — The Sioux Falls Washington Warriors defeated Brandon Valley 35-20 to claim the Class 11AA football title Saturday night in Vermillion

Running back Sam Cooke led the offense with 13 carries for 97 yards and one touchdown in the win.

Brandon Valley’s Chase Marso, who also won the Joe Robbie Most Valuable Player and the Most Outstanding Back awards, led the Lynx with 34-of-63 in passing for 454 yards and two touchdowns.

SFW’s Austin Kuhnert was named Most Outstanding Lineman of the game.

SDSU women split in tournament

MINNEAPOLIS — The South Dakota State University women’s basketball team split a pair of games at the Minnesota Opening Tournament.

The Jacks lost to Villanova University 71-47 in their first game, which was on Saturday, but rebounded to defeat Washington State University 65-56 in overtime Sunday.

Mariah Clarin led the Jacks with 16 points against Villanova.
