LETTER: Ideas often opinions, not always factual

This kind of vile rhetoric has no place in a fair newspaper.

To the Editor:

Regardless of how much I may disagree with someone’s opinion, I will always respect their right to that opinion and defend the right for that person to express such an opinion.

I do take strong exception to Mr. Schumacher’s letter concerning the president and his multiple comments which he presented as facts rather than ideas he believes.

He said the president “bows to foreign despots,” and relates Barack Obama to Lenin and Mao among two dictators in history. He also gave new life to the claim the president’s birth certificate was a “fraud.”

Expressing one’s opinion as such is totally legitimate. This kind of vile rhetoric has no place in a fair newspaper. I am disappointed The Daily Republic would see fit to publish this letter without some comment.
