LETTER: Mitchell should help Sandy’s NY, NJ victims

Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the merchants in Mitchell got together and decided to help out the folks on the East Coast?

To the Editor:

Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the merchants in Mitchell got together and decided to help out the folks on the East Coast?

These people need clothing for men, women, boys, girls and babies.

They lost everything. They have nothing.

They need shoes, boots, coats, mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, caps, underwear, socks.

They need towels, bathing supplies, soap, medicines, toilet paper and paper towels.

They need coffee, coffee pots, stoves, milk, bread, cereals, sugar, salt, pepper, fruits, bread, butter, jelly, peanut butter, vegetables, apples, pears, silverware, pans, basins to wash in, and also plenty of jugs of drinking water.

They need plywood, nails, hammers, screwdrivers, shovels, heaters, generators. They need John Deere tractors with fork lifts, they need lumber. They need everything. They lost everything to Sandy.

You would have to have to hire semi-tractors to haul all of these supplies to the East Coast. Maybe some of our men in Mitchell who are electricians would volunteer to help get electricity restored. Chris Christie’s state was hurt real bad, as were the boroughs, Queens and Rockaway in New York. These people lost it all, folks. Come on, Mitchell merchants, put your manpower to work and get this organized to become reality.

Remember all the lumber in the lumber yard, courtesy of God’s trees. All that money in your wallet, also courtesy of God’s trees.

Let’s show America that Mitchell, S.D., sends its love and caring. That is why God gave us planet Earth: to live together in peace and help our fellow man. Let’s put Mitchell on the map. Wouldn’t it be nice if we did all of these things?
