Kernels earn state tournament berth for third straight year

The Kernel volleyball team booked its ticket to the Class AA state tournament today with a straight-set victory over Sturgis.

The Kernel volleyball team booked its ticket to the Class AA state tournament today with a straight-set victory over Sturgis.

This is the third consecutive state appearance for Mitchell. The Class AA tournament is set for Nov. 15-17 at Rapid City Central High School in Rapid City.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-11, 25-17.

Kendra Morgan led the Kernels with 33 set assists, five digs and three aces. Taylin Alm recorded 14 kills, Kerri Young tallied nine aces and two blocks and Sidney Neugebauer added eight kills, five digs and two blocks in the win.

Emma Schmidt had seven kills and 12 digs and Megan Farnham added 13 digs. Taylor Sebert had four digs and two aces for the Kernels.
