PINE RIDGE (AP) — A polling site on South Dakota's Pine Ridge Indian Reservation that resulted from a federal voting rights lawsuit has attracted hundreds of people for the general election — a better showing than during the June primary.
The media reports that more than 300 people voted early at the site in the town of Pine Ridge, compared with just 46 voters in the six weeks leading up to the primary.
Fall River County Auditor Sue Ganje (GAN'-jee) says the turnout is good and many voters have said they appreciate the voting site.
The site was set up after a group of 25 reservation residents filed a federal lawsuit earlier this year seeking the same six weeks of early voting that were provided elsewhere in the state.
