Early voter turnout strong in South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says he's pleased with the early Election Day turnout at the polls.

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says he's pleased with the early Election Day turnout at the polls.

Gant says many voting sites around the state had people lined up outside when they opened at 7 a.m., and he's encouraged for a high turnout.

Gant earlier predicted that about 70 percent of the state's voters would cast ballots, down slightly from the 73 percent turnout in the 2008 presidential election. He says "we're very hopeful we reach that mark, and very hopeful we blow it out of the water."
